The pianist and composer Bruce Simonds was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 5, 1895. Simonds spent nearly his entire adult life at Yale University, although he performed widely. He received his bachelor's degree from Yale in 1917. After further studies in London and Paris, Simonds joined the faculty of the Yale School of Music in 1921, where he taught for the next 52 years.
